About the Event
Pennsylvania’s Department of Conservation and Natural Resources Needs Acorns and You Can Help
Annually, DCNR searches for and collects acorns and seeds to replenish the state’s nursery. The acorns are prepared for planting and the seedlings are eventually used in State parks and for reforestation efforts across the state. This year, the Tioga County Woodland Owners Association, in conjunction with DCNR, invites the public to participate in an Acorn Search and Collection.
Searchers will meet Sunday, October 15th from 1-3pm at the Water Tank at Leonard Harrison Campground on the east rim of Leonard Harrison State Park. This hike will also give you a chance to see the improvements that have recently been made to this section of the Park.
People of all ages are encouraged to attend as the search and collection involves little more than finding acorns with seeds in them and putting them in a bushel basket. TCWOA will provide all that is needed for the collection as well as snacks and drinks for the searchers. Be a part of what makes Pennsylvania an amazing place to visit and an even better place to live, its forests. Venture into the woods amidst the oaks and bring back the seeds for a new generation.
